Coleman, Ornette – “Friends and Neighbors: Ornette Live At Prince Street ” – [Flying Dutchman Prod.]

1970 live recording that took place in a warehouse on Prince Street near Coleman???s home in NYC. Both ???Friends and Neighbors??? cuts are fun and groove ??? vocal includes actual voices of neighbors.. Other cuts are more characteristic of Ornette — challenging and avant-garde.

Fun facts:
??? Ornette Coleman and Dewey Redman met in the marching band of their Fort Worth high school.
??? Bob Thiele was a former Coltrane producer and Impulse! Records A&R man. He founded the Flying Dutchman label intending to do a line of jazz-based records that would sell and be played on the radio.
