Chaton, Anne James / Andy Moor – “Le Journaliste ” – [Unsounds]

Highly conceptual material. Moor (The Ex, Dog Faced Hermans) cooks up abstract musical backgrounds with his electric guitar while ???sound poet??? Chaton reads assorted texts en Fran??ais. Most of the tracks are built on tense, repetitive guitar layers of varying densities, with Chaton???s vocal contributions straight-ahead on some tracks and more electronically manipulated on others. The words he speaks originated in newspaper articles or something like that, and they are blatantly mundane: numbers, addresses, names of corporations, etc; it’s obvious he is using the words more for their sounds than for their meaning. I don’t doubt that somewhere in there is a comment on the emptiness of our modern mass media. The last track contains what I think are excerpts from weather announcements in different languages. Art is everywhere, you know.
