DJ Female Convict Scorpion ??? Constance Towers A-Library CD {self-released}DJ Female Convict Scorpion (a.k.a. Josh Pollack & Amoeba Music S.F.) is quite the movie buff.?? That???s evident both in his assuming the Scorpion pseudonym from the early 70???s Japanese prison break film as well as the most recent album title giving a nod to early twentieth century silver screen tough girl, Constance Towers.?? His music certainly plays out like a score to some celluloid ghost picture.?? Scorpion???s pieces track together in cinematic splendor but also work well independently.?? His approach is undeniably experimental but quite intelligently crafted.?? Influences range from jazz, funk, beats, psych washes, drone ambience, dark symphonic compositions, wet reverb dubbed reggae, tense revivalist a???cappella soul, ritualistic tribal percussion, eerie scores and the avant garde.?? Samples include excerpts from cult classic, the Warriors as well as ???Papa Was A Rolling Stone, and what could be William Shatner moonlighting as a hypnotherapist.?? The moods & styles segue seamlessly into each other.?? He???s probably using a wide assortment of pedals, processors, mixers, and effects to accomplish this task.?? I fuckin??? love it.?? It sounds like blaxploitation meets Ennio Morricone or Angelo Badalamenti with a touch of free jazz.?? Scorpion has fused together another masterpiece for our collective pleasure.?? It???s the best music you ever saw. Comment on this review |
