Pousseur, Henri – “Early Experimental Electronic Music 1954-61″ – [Sub Rosa]

This album/cd is the seventh in a series put out by Sub Rosa presenting the work of Henri Pousseur. Influenced by Bruckner and Webern, friends with Berio, Stockhausen and Boulez, Pousseur ran with the big boys. This release showcases his earliest works. And ah the joys of early electronic music. Bleeps, bloops, tinny repetition, chiming circularity, fades in and out, tape loops, wiggly squiggly sounds, angular orchestrations. These pieces provide listeners with the beginning (first piece composed at the age of 25) of a prolific career. Post war in sound, somber in feeling yet many moments of fascination and excitement in experimentation. Important in understanding the roots of current electronic experimental music.
