Lissack, Selwyn – “Friendship Next of Kin ” – [DMG Arc]Lost treasure rediscovered. Three wild free-jazz tracks, around 20 minutes each, recorded in London 1969. Expatriate South African drummer Lissack leads this group of South African, British, and American musicians through a blowing session similar in style -and somewhat connected personnel-wise- to some of the classic BYG/Actuel recordings of the era. Track 1 and Track 3 are differently-edited versions of the same recording of the title track, one of them including a two or three minute drum solo. There are a few other differences between the two edits as well, but they???re mostly the same: long, chaotic tracks, inspired and intense, with crazy horns everywhere. You can???t go wrong with either one. Track 2 starts with around five minutes of dramatic poetry, then jumps off into more free instrumental adventures. All three tracks are quite potent.
