Bergin, Sean and M.O.B. – “Kids Mysteries ” – [Nimbus Records]Saxophonist/composer Bergin writes busy and involved music with a lot of stuff (melodies, counterpoints, soloing) happening simultaneously. It’s a big, wild sound, sometimes bouncy and humorous, other times crazy and intense. Bergin has been a notable presence on the Dutch jazz scene since the mid-70s, having migrated there from his native South Africa. M.O.B (My Own Band) has had a somewhat flexible membership over the years; this lineup features three reed players, two brass players, two cellists, piano, bass, and drums. All three members of Holland’s quirky Clusone Trio (Bennink, Moore, Reijseger) are on hand. Every one of the players is solid; Bennink on drums is, as always, particularly amazing.
