Shinedoe / Len Faki – Split 12″ [coll] – [Podium Records]

Shinedoe aka Chinedum Nwosu, delivers a phasing minimalist
dance number, that drops some old Detroit-style blorps on
top of the insistency. Then halfway through those blorps
turn briefly to a phantom-at-the-organ; switching keys,
chords and direction for a bit…then back to the basic beat.
Riding a subway train out to the edge of beyond.

On the flip, Len Faki starts with a big bass force field,
round mounds of hover and hum, toss a little telegraph tweak
on top…then ice that out with some reverb. Little drums
come in to knock twice on the ceiling, before finally the
robot 4/4 kicks in. This cut, “Rumpelkammer” (which allegedly
means “junk room”) is actually pretty clean and austere. The
heavy bass does eventually get stronger and stronger and
cut loose in a nightclub would inevitably cover the floor with
loosened fillings. Really for a slammer, this has a lot of
variety in the the sounds tossed in, and some sleight of hand
slow up/speed down tricks move the tweaks in and out of step
with the robodrums. Eventually the percussion really gets to
rolling. Popcorn flavor too! My kind o’ minimal big time,
mounting momentum! The winner on this split (put out by Faki
himself).
