Blumm, F.S. & Frahm, Nils – “music for lovers music versus time / music for wobbling…” – [Sonic Pieces]

blumm_vs_frahm
Yellow (wobbling/gravity) disk is pretty shimmery with short fragile
flickers. Blue (lovers/time) disk divides your days into eternal dawns
with longer pieces (apparently assembled from studio left-overs from
other Blumm recordings). There’s a touch of your grandmother’s favorite
noise (“Oh, sweetie turn that up, it reminds me so of your grandfather
waiting on the porch for me”), a whiff of art brut (“Dad, can you
bring my toys out of the studio when you are done”) and maybe a hint
of Derek Bailey on medication (“Not so angry and aggressive now Derek,
see the wrong notes are still pretty when you space them out on your
guitar”) Anyone remember Slow Blow and other Icelandic tweakers were
eking out sounds? I imagine droves of indie film makers hearing this
and seeing their scenes of quiet epiphanies or empty bus stations
flash upon their cortical brain screens. Horns of pacified plenty
appear on the blue, along with some excellent ring delay, I think
there’s more varied input on the blue due to its nature of saved
sounds. On both there are elements of Oval-esque glitch, the overall
vibe is a precious sentimentality (c’mon all of that toy piano,
try *not* to think of your pet’s first birthday party!) Kinda
interesting that this indeterminate music with extensions to the
piano and guitar core is getting some popular pitchfork pokes.
Here’s a fun fact Herr Blumm took his final exam in “fluxus and
interdisciplinary art-movements” Flux on!
