Echologist – “Storming Heaven” – [Prologue Music]

echologist_storming
I dug the dubbed out Echologist (great name btw)
“Subterranean” release 2 years ago. Brendon Moeller
returns with a much more thumpy release; the cooling
aquatic sound washes take a back seat to the bass.
I miss that sorta Basic Channel splash, here between
the 4/4 it trickles in, but the sounds feel kinda
like styrofoam squished in my ears as opposed to
submerged aquatics. “Stepping Out” has that sort of
head underwater in the bathtub feel with a drifting
beat and shards of faux cymbals. “Tricks of the Shade”
has nice dark buildup and then rides a hoverbus
through a gleaming chrome city. Knob twiddling filter
clip is used a lot through-out. “Deep Fried” clips
those filters through phases, but has a nice teeter
totter rhythm. In general, a primary beat is locked in,
while his electro-noodlings on top of it carry the ears
off the dance floor. “Lost” is a kind of digital flower
blossoming in the midst of more starkly synthetic and
insistent creations. Moeller, left South Africa years
ago for NYC, following in the steps of the cover icon?
