Wire Tapper 09, the [coll] – [The Wire]A spirited collection. Once again the folks at The Wire magazine compile many examples of music from the other side of the fence, and release a giveaway CD for their readers. KFJC already has about 1/3 of these tracks in the library, but at least some of these appear to be edits or re-mixes, so possibly different versions here. A rough estimate might split this CD into around 50% instrumental tracks and 50% tracks with vocals. As with many comps, this one is all over the place, but there’s not a dull track to be found. Among them are frenzied trance (5), bouncy techno (17,31), noisy glitch chaos (13,14,15), goofy rap (2,12), fuzzy psyche-pop (16), dub (7,11), scattered improv (9,19), moody waves of sound (20,21), jazz blowing (28,29). The Jimmy Lyons track in particular is outstanding; blazing off-the-hook bebop w/ alto sax and bassoon (!). There’s nothing I don’t like here, with the exception maybe of the masturbation talk on #2.
