Sore Eros & Vile, Kurt – “Jamaica Plain EP” – [Care In The Community Recordings]

sore_eros_kurt
Care For The Community sent us a CDR (too bad as a 10″ record always
gets a hero’s welcome at KFJC). The sounds here not only hearken
back to the Espers’ hey daze, but actuallly dates back to then too.
There are three previously unreleased ditties from the early 2000′s.
The lead off instrumental, “Jamaica Plain” has a very nice pastoral
hypnotic quality… light psych guitar work, stepping stone
electric piano, and rays of synth light all create a halo around
an acoustic guitar thinking about a sunny meadow. Serene!
“Serum” goes slower and blurrier, teasing an “Us and Them” vibe,
lyrics mumble something about blood and Jesus and corndogs. Okay,
I added the latter, sadly no corndogs. Too sleepy for me. One
more instro on this, “Calling Out Of Work” tiny little burrowing
guitars and broader synth wooshes, if Earth were invaded by a
bunch of mellow alien stoners it might go like this song or perhaps
“Take us to your lea…DUDE…this hummus is amazing.” More
distracted than distracting, call it ambient folk. Sore Eros is
Robert Robinson, making his KFJC debut with this. Glad to report
he’s still going under than nom du sound, digging his “Just Fuzz”
via bandcramp.
