Herb Diamante – “May I Light Your Cigarette? ” – [Abduction]

As the recent Scott Walker album has proven again, when a
man sings like a man, people become confused, frightened and
jittery. The bareness of Herb Diamante’s baritone, broken
at parts, scorched by torch song triangulation, takes some
time to simmer to taste. Let the croon guide the tune. Slowly
the toupee will slip over your ears, and things might just turn
ou to be a bit more comfy. Razing Lee Hazelwood never hurt no
one, no how. Diamante may not bring a velvet fog to “Some
Velvet Morning” but the thought counts like a posh stunning
cummerbund. Oddly, this album almost seems not weird enough
to me, but then I suspect the clothes make the man so when
the spotlight finds our dazzling Diamante on stage, cloaked
in character and garbed to garble, the full effect will fit
tight as a pinky ring. For what it’s worth, JOHN GODBERT
(he of Vibracathedral Orchestra/Skullflower) has never been
seen at the same haberdasher. -Thurston Hunger

I’m one of Herb’s writing partners. If anyone spots him around, tell him work has begun on a new ‘all live’ set for September time. And work has commenced on a follow up album.
