Idea Fire Company – “Stranded ” – [Swill Radio]

Ahhh delicious Swill, smooth soothing to the ear. Idea Fire
Company go nowhere better than most bands go anywhere. Too
busy to be considered drones, but concentric enough to be
confounded with them…let’s call them “looms.” They could
be the sound of apocalyptic hailing frequencies…”Sir I’ve
scanned the dial, and all I can pick up on any channel is
this same pattern over and over…” Short-wave radio is in
the mix along with long-wave theta brain emissions. The
first “Stranded” finds us on an island with at least some
bird life, as we pick our way among the rocky shore. But
there are persistent freaky freqs humming, oscillating,
watching, listening to us. That’s what these records do,
ah hah, they actually LISTEN to us! (It makes sense at 3am
we’ll see how it flies tomorrow, assuming there will be a
tomorrow.) Stranded I to II is an abrupt transition, in
the empty broken hull of the boat, Scott Foust tries to
resuscitate the ship’s radio. A music box comes to life,
more looping loom, but pretty. Hope squelches eternal? Along
the pretty side of the IF Company, enjoy the voice vectors
on “Heroes”, pretty divine. “Artifcial” is more a bleep fight,
radar screens, zappy. “Wunderwaffen” keeps its drums in
duffel bag, tapes of cellos fill the air like warplanes,
and again gyroscopic synth whirls. Dialing…dialing.

    Hi Thurston,

Scott from IFCO here. Thanks for the great review. I think Stranded is one of the best I’ve done. If you drop me a line whenever there is new Swill releases, I’ll send a copy to the station. Next up: IFCO- Live In Europe CD.

    Thanks!

    Scott
