McGregor, Dion “Dion McGregor Dreams Again [Tzadik]Struggling New York songwriter, Dion McGregor ultimately wasn’t cut out for music industry popularity. Strangely, he was developing a bizarre reputation amongst friends regarding his extraordinarily articulate shrieking somniloquies. Whilst slumbering, McGregor would oft have graphically imaginative dreams he narrated aloud in astonishing detail. During 1960 – 1967, his roommate and co-songwriter, Michael Barr, recorded these sessions, documenting McGregor’s subconscious creativity and increasingly audible screams as each dream sequence intensified. These nocturnal head trips span various subjective scenarios about running wildly around New York City streets, answering sex questions with Vulvina, tattooing women’s tongue’s until they fall off, hunting for baby gryphon, and cunt lapping contests amongst inestimable others. McGregor can get pretty vulgar at times but his effeminately argumentative sleepy speech patterns are fascinatingly hilarious! Sheer novelty classifications are right out. Don’t just dream it? SCREAM IT! And slip into the subliminal unconscious to explore this vitally vivid R.E.M. gem. LANGUAGE: # 3, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 20 Comment on this review |
