Lunde, Eric – “Music Is Meat” – [TraitMediaWorks]
Is it a soundtrack? Kind of… it’s like a soundtrack for a book documenting early noise music, more specifically, an early noise group, but the lead singer died, so it’s a bunch of people acting like a noise group. Kind of strange concept, but it makes for a really cool record.
The tracks here all fall on a sliding scale of spoken word and electronic noise. Most tracks utilize both, sometimes the music is turned up, and the voice is turned down, or vice versa. With topics like the soul and body (track 10), narcissism (5), and an explanation of the title (2), other tracks have the voice barely audible. More cool spoken word toward the end. I like the tracks that make you turn it up real loud in order to hear what he’s saying. All in the background is electronic manipulation sounding like warehouse thunder(track 3), a stoney war beat (4), or minimalist beat (12). It’s not exactly noise, but it’s not exactly melodic.
Some FCCs throughout, a lot of tracks good for mixing with, but I would just let them stand alone.
