MoHa! – “Raus Aus Stavanger ” – [Rune Grammofon]
Young Norwegian drums/guitar duo makes a racket not unlike Jimi Hendrix recorded in a welding shop. MOrten J. Olsen (drums, Supercollider 3 software) sounds like he has a nice feel for the possibilities of his drum kit, and as a bonus his playing triggers some computer-generated weirdness. Even without his computer he finds cool sounds, such as the squeaking on track 6. Anders HAna checks in with his no-hold-barred electric guitar, contributing shrill projectiles, downtuned clouds of fuzz, and everything in between that’s not exactly music. Fans of rampaging sonic duos such as Ruins and Lightning Bolt, as well as devotees of guitar explorers like Fred Frith, should find plenty to like here.
Manna from Hana’s manos!! I can only hope that Anders and Nels Cline
hook up in some sort of guitar battle to the death. Two of the best
six-string shooters packing these days! Strung out in heaven’s high.
