Meek, Joe & the Blue Men “I Hear A New World” [RPM] (33 RPM)

Thoroughly underappreciated during his heyday, Joe Meek was an English producer turned rocker who avidly explored the music fringes. As the title suggests, you’ll most certainly ‘hear a new world,? on this imaginative outer space soundtrack. The extraterrestrial excursion IS alien but never overdone as Meek and the Blue Men shoot for the moon with numerous & ingenious sound effects, echoing out of tune piano, the synth organ-esque clavioline, and spaced out cosmological ambience. This recording was designed to also flaunt wondrous stereo capabilities as noises shift about. You start with strange atmospheric movements before whizzing across the stars on a splendid rapid transit space craft. The music is upbeat and hurried as you move about the solar system, introducing mini rolling march beats and what sounds like twittering galactic flea circus vocals or perhaps even an unearthly version of the Chipmunks. It can project like some spookishly supernatural symphony with a spaghetti western feel. Funny phasers, lasers, bends & manipulations all convey a spectacular foreign sense of hurtling through some space age tube. It’s like exotica alien mall music, except after the tram ride its just twinkling stars? NO STARBUCKS , THANK GOODNESS!!! Take this exciting Star Trek into the unknown and boldly go where no one has gone before!!!
