Jerusalem In My Heart – “Mo7it Al-Mo7it” – [Constellation]

This is only the sonic side to Radwan Ghazi Moumneh’s
project Jersualem in My Heart. Evidently in its full
glory the project features 16mm films (Malena Szlam is
the film auteur) with light show and a troupe of performers.
That being said this remains a powerful release, a similar
marriage of traditional and electronic sounds along the lines
of the Dariush Dolat-shahi recent reissue. The feeling can
be earthy, Sarah Page’s Harp to open #5, sounding like she
is serenading birds. The feeling can be mystical, as in the
closing track’s spriraling of buzuk and voice, both wailing
in frenzy but another deeper moaning voice sets in and then
a chorus. Respite between visions? The undulating moan
concludes the song and album. That is a stark contrast to
the opening voice, sounding like a call to prayer but
riding on electronic winds, and shaped by effects. The
third track has hyperventillating keys, sounding like
Raymond Scott gone wild, and possibly backing a sample of
Nouhad Wadi Haddad aka Fairuz, a Lebanese artist that
may have inspired Moumneh, who resides in Montreal where
he caught Constellations eyes/ears and heart. A passionate
release that can work in many ways. 7′s are H’s and 3′s
are “ayn’s” and this is a 10.
