Rollerball “Long Walk for Ice Cream” [Cochon]

The mysterious & stylistically versatile Rollerball continue to impress with Long Walk for Ice Cream. Unpredictable diversity has always been essential to their exhilarating progression. Dramatic free jazz, spellbinding jazz rock, new wave, electronica explorations, schizophrenic psych, prog permutations, neo-classical traces, and ambient experimentalism never seem contrived or out of place under Rollerball’s aesthetically creative and occasionally cacophonous canopy. Long Walk for Ice Cream is triggered by exceptional unreleased material and features music from two previously released EP’s, Travels With Steam and Zapatos. This fluid recording emits perfect esoteric peculiarity with luring nostalgic accents. Rollerball have an astonishing climactic level of elaborate artistic capabilities, yet retain such a modest approach to making music. Percussive drumming, sample mixing, sweeping ambience, keyboards, accordions, sax, trumpets, clarinets, and conventional guitar & bass percolate impulsively in slow echoing, psychedelic pulsations & flowing free jazz style improvisations. Their hypnotically well executed music possesses intimate overtones with that inescapable moody spookiness too. It’s a pretty brooding hallucinogenic atmosphere; one that makes the Long Walk for Ice Cream worth the tripped out trek! Fuckin’ amazing musicianship wrought with tense suspense!
