Hey, now that Brian Wilson’s been kicked out of the
Beach Boys, maybe he could seek refuge in Django
Django. This Scottish quartet have the vocals way
up in the mix a la the *REAL* B-Boy, and some pretty
syupy-sweet harmonies to boot, plus a healthy penchant
for oddball sounds (more than a few Good Vibrations
pop up). Anyways, this band may be heading rapidly up
the dial out of the non-commercial gutter we all love
and call home, but right now there is something about
these bouncy synth numbers (with some light touches
of guitar) that makes it hard to stop smiling like a
dork while listening to them.?? Even without the Bay City
Roller beat on “Firewater” or the police siren streaking
through “Wor” with its jungle toms and spy guitar riff.
The album starts off oddly playing Pac-Man in a digital
aviary but that segues into a bubblegum bumper car
ride that is pretty much fun till the four soggy
remixes at the end of the album. Will I still like this
album when it’s selling kids shoes in a year? I hope
their art-school underpinnings will help make some
really bad business decisions and more messed up music!
