Sissy Spacek – “Contretemps” – [Post Present Medium]This record is totally awesome because it sounds sort of like it’s being played at the wrong speed when it’s played at the right one. Some call this style ‘noisegrind,’ some ‘noisecore,’ but you get the idea: really noisy grindcore….. Or is it grind-influenced noise? One member of this L.A. quartet is John Wiese, ex-Bastard Noise, who has collaborated with The Haters, Sunn O))), Wolf Eyes, Merzbow and Cattle Decapitation. Could be seen from a metallic angle (early S.O.B., Sore Throat) but its metal elements, especially Wiese’s awesome bass, are overloading the equipment, plus there’s some concrete, electronics and pure feedback going on so BZZZZZZZ: a better way to view this is in the school of artsier extreme acts like Sete Star Sept, Boris (on ‘Vein Hardcore’ anyway), D-Clone (etc., seems to be a lot of this kinda stuff in Japan) or the first Daughters album. These 10 microsongs barely surpass 4m30s. They’re gonna pay for dumping that pigs’ blood on her. Comment on this review |
