[coll] Paradise Island / Dada Swing “Beast / Schadenfroh” [Cochon] (33 RPM)Paradise Island: Erase Errata’s Jenny Hoysten records strange solo music aided by acoustic & electric guitar, organ, a relic Mattel manufactured drum machine, and a ukulele. Along with her soft pleasing vocals and experimental efficacy, Hoysten plays stripped down freaky folk pop & indie acoustic electronica that proves she is both a fiercely imaginative artist and essential to the underground music scene’s vitality. Her compositions embrace psychedelic abnormality and transform it in gorgeously mysterious ways. She really puts am endearing personal touch into her music. This is extensively amplified by her playfully charming lyricism and semi-shadowy undertones. Her approach is weird yet inviting as she transitions between electronic click beats and acoustic strum pieces with resonating pop sounds. Dada Swing: Totally awesome erratic dance punk perfection from this Rome, Italy no wave powerhouse. Unscrewed pizzazz and supercharged dynamism that expands with each selection. Dada Swing employs refreshing repetitious bursts, the compartmentalized kind that stuns you at first then shifts into even more outlandish mutant dance strains. If you’re thinking along the lines of Dynasty, Les Georges Leningrad, Point Line Plane, or Lost Sounds you’re heading in the right direction but these folks lead a slightly different sonic pathway. Guitars, glockenspiels, live drums & percussion, samplers, casio keys and crazed screams expand the already silly dynamic & deranged death disco dementia. What’s really cool is they sound like they’re having extreme fun doing some of the strangest catchy music I’ve heard in the last few years. Features Jaime Peterson (Old Time Relijun) on drums!
