Sleeping People – “Notruf” – [Temporary Residence Ltd.]Sleeping People’s new album, from San Diego, yeah, oh boy. Old chick guitarist left to pursue her side project, The Dirty Projectors, so other guitarist Kasey Boeholt, bassist Kenseth Thibideau, and drummer Brandon Relf, invited their original guitarist, Joileah Thalmann, back into the group… with great success. The two side-longs of instrumental math rock sound improvised because of how easy they make the transitions sound, making the drums a really important sound, leading the intensity of the songs as they progress. A-side takes you through waves of aggravation and melancholic dreams to hopeful, back to aggravated. Dirty, diverse sound, will have you trying to bob your head to the beat. End is very pretty with a piano line toward the end and a resonating chord as the last note. B-side is cramped and makes you anxious, the tic-tic-tic of the drums, and then a driving riff in 4. Feels like more time has passed than it has listening to this. At the middle, there is a guitar riff that sounds like a siren, and the other instruments start to follow it, 1-2-3-, 1-2-3, 1-2-3. Appropriate for a song called “Polizei.” Very end is a guitar essentially mimicing a siren.. PGM: this album will induce seizures Comment on this review |
