Glass Candy “Iko” [Troubleman Unlimited]

This is a fucking magnificent maxi-single from Portland, Oregon’s death disco freak lover trio, Glass Candy! Glittery glam sounds, ’80′s new wave synth funk, ’70′s era pop hooks, gorgeous grooves, and dazzling vixen vocalizations from the fascinatingly fair-skinned, Ida No! Covers Sugarboy Crawford’s IKO and lays down a sweet Blondie-esque serenade on Sugar & Whitebread. Tight beats, perfect bass tones, talk box guitar effects, and sumptuous warbling electronics give a nostalgic vibe worth investigating repeatedly! Lovin’ Machine has that stealthy private eye while movin’ under the night sky feel. Sets a damn fine sexy mood! Almost reminds me of Rockwell’s ‘Somebody’s Watching Me? but with a Knight Rider spin. This whole maxi-single is catchy as hell and features alternate versions with a few that not only stack up but surpass the original takes! SUPERB!!! Several tracks feature some aspect of the overall IKO theme, but the music is fun, sleek, and mysterious making it totally palatable. Goddamn, Glass Candy fuckin’ rule!
